Israel arrests 16 Palestinians for alleged ties to terror group – Israel’s Channel 2 News

Israel has arrested 16 Palestinians who are accused of plotting to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), a monitoring group said on Sunday.

Netanyahu announced in October that Israel would open its doors to those who wished to emigrate from the Palestinian territories.

Israel has long refused to recognize the existence of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

The PA is in control of the Gaza Strip, while Israel is the only officially recognized Palestinian state.

Palestinians, who make up a majority of the population in the occupied West Bank, are seeking statehood recognition.

The 17 suspects, who include three Israeli citizens, face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

Israel does not allow Palestinians to vote in Israeli elections.
